Cafe – Ba – Ba – Reeba

Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba! is Chicago’s original tapas bar, serving authentic Spanish cuisine since 1985. The menu is designed to share, featuring tapas, pintxos (bite-sized tapas) and the classic Valencian rice dish, paella. Pair the meal with sangria, craft cocktails, Spanish wine and local beers in our lively Lincoln Park restaurant.

What has been your professional experience with Rioja wine?

Being the original tapas restaurant in Chicago, Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba! was one of the first restaurants in the city to focus on Rioja and other Spanish wines when we opened in 1985. We enjoy being able to share a wide spectrum of Riojas with our guests   we offer 14 bottles – and showcase red, white and rosé varietals from the region.

How was the experience of participating in a contest? Have you participated in any other contest before?

In the past I’ve participated in a few Instagram contests, both internal within Lettuce Entertain You and external like with the James @BeardFoundation during award season. Zoe and I had a blast with the Rioja Cheers contest because we got our whole team involved. Every Thanksgiving week, our staff decorates the restaurant for the holidays and everyone dresses up in ugly Christmas sweaters. We took photos of the red, white and rosé Rioja with the staff in their holiday garb, which made the whole thing festive and fun. We also ordered and used the Rioja POS materials – including a little Santa outfit for the wine bottles!

Tell us something you are passionate about outside of work. What is a passion you have?

I am passionate about all things Chicago. Whether it’s checking out the great restaurants, exploring different neighborhoods or volunteering in the community, I try to spend my time outside of work experiencing all that Chicago has to offer.

One factor that makes Rioja a world class wine is its ability to be aged for a long time, and the fact that the winery ages the wines before release. In fact, Rioja has long set the standard for extended aging, having defined the requirements.
